Taking flight at Emporium

Converse Emporium received a makeover of a different kind when Converse Xpert JESWRI and the Converse_X_ crew got their hands on it last month.

Walk past and you will be stopped by a rebellious cockatoo, made of old Chucks and shoelaces, now flying high next to the flagship store.

Artist and Illustrator (and long time Converse fan and wearer) JESWRI, alongside four members of Converse_X_ put together the mural in Melbourne which depicts freedom, expression, rebellion and community – all major tenets of what makes up the Converse_X_ collective.

Completed over a weekend, the quartet of creatives brainstormed their ideas and inspiration for the space in a workshop on Saturday before putting their theory to the test on Sunday, finishing their masterpiece.

The diverse Converse_X_ group all brought their own different strengths and creative influences to the project and it proved to be the perfect mix which resulted in an epic mural as the finished product.

“The cockatoo is the most mental, rebellious looking bird and we figured that freedom of expression is being represented by the bird not only flying but holding a pair of bolt cutters to cut society’s cage and free the unique,” JESWRI explained on completion of the project.
