Converse City Forests, Sydney

We’re bringing All Star creatives together to create environmentally friendly murals across the globe.

The Artist

Local Sydney artist and Converse All Star, Elliott Routledge brings you the first Australian Converse City Forest mural. Known for his public art installations, paintings, and sculptures, Elliott has exhibited in galleries and installed murals throughout the world.

Rainforest Rescue

Elliott collaborated with Rainforest Rescue to bring the spirit of the Daintree to the City. Rainforest Rescue protects and restores rainforests in Australia through buy-back of at-risk rainforest and nature reserve certification, along with planting and restoration.

How The Paint Works

A revolutionary way to fight air pollution, Boysen KNOxOUT is a photocatalytic paint developed on the basis of CristalActiv technology that imitates nature. Just like the photosynthetic organisms that transform carbon dioxide into oxygen and organic matter thanks to sunlight, KNOxOUT absorbs atmospheric pollutants thanks to a chemical process activated by UV light. Basically, this smog eating paint is serious stuff!

Local Impact

Converse CIty Forests plant trees where trees don’t grow. This mural is located on high-traffic Cathedral St in Woolloomooloo, right by a bustling overpass and train station, and absorbs enough air pollutants to plant the equivalent of 183 trees in inner city Sydney. This number contributes to our global total of 2220 trees, and counting!

The Patches

As part of the campaign, a series of patches also designed by Elliott are available to purchase here and at select Converse stores, with 100% of proceeds being donated to Rainforest Rescue to continue their invaluable work of preserving and restoring Rainforests around Australia. You can make a positive impact and be part of the Converse CIty Forests story by grabbing some patches for your favourite pair of Chucks or a t-shirt.

Patches are easily applied to your favourite pair of Canvas Chucks, or apparel items by following these steps:

1. Adjust iron setting to cotton/linen.
2. Be sure to take shoes off before starting. Handle hot iron with care. Keep away from skin.
3. Place a rag over desired location and use iron to pre-heat the area for 1 minute.
4. Place patch on pre-heated area.
5. Place the rag over patch and press firmly with iron. Continuously move in circular motions for 2-4 minutes.
6. Let cool for 10 minutes before flexing fabric.

    Step 1

    Stand up straight on a hard surface with your heel against the wall and a piece of blank paper taped to the floor, flush against the wall beneath your foot.

    Step 2

    Have someone mark the longest part of your foot (referred to as heel-to-toe length) on the paper with a pen or pencil, or measure yourself if necessary. Repeat with the other foot, as right and left sizes may be different.

    Step 3

    Use a ruler to measure the heel-to-toe length you marked for each foot.
